DPA-714 is a small molecule ligand that specifically binds to the translocator protein (TSPO), formerly known as the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor. It is commonly radiolabeled with fluorine F 18 to create a PET imaging agent (fluorine F 18-DPA-714 or [18F]DPA-714) for detecting TSPO-expressing cells in vivo. TSPO is upregulated in various pathological conditions, particularly neuroinflammation and activated macrophages. DPA-714 has high affinity for TSPO and stimulates pregnenolone synthesis. The compound has been used primarily as a biomarker for neuroinflammation and in research settings to image inflammation associated with diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, and brain tumors using positron emission tomography (PET)[1][3][4][5][6][7].
