Overview

Dpb-T is an experimental small molecule belonging to the class of organic compounds known as pyrimidones, which contain a pyrimidine ring. Its chemical formula is C17H19N2O8P and it has a molecular weight of approximately 410.3 g/mol. The primary known biological target for Dpb-T is the human mitochondrial enzyme 5'(3')-deoxyribonucleotidase (gene name NT5M), which dephosphorylates specifically the 5' and 2'(3')-phosphates of uracil and thymine deoxyribonucleotides, thereby protecting mitochondrial DNA replication from excess dTTP. It has only marginal activity towards dIMP and dGMP. The compound is classified as experimental, with no approved therapeutic indications or marketed formulations currently available[1].
