Overview

DpdtaA-Cu is a copper(II) chelate of the dithiocarbamate derivative di-2-pyridylhydrazone dithiocarbamate s-acetic acid (DpdtaA). It is an experimental small molecule investigated for its antiproliferative effects against hepatocellular carcinoma. The compound's mechanism of action involves the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the upregulation of the p53 tumor suppressor protein, partially by disrupting the interaction between p53 and its negative regulator, Mdm2. This leads to the induction of intrinsic apoptosis and autophagy. Research has shown that the formation of the copper complex (DpdtaA-Cu) significantly attenuates the antiproliferative potency compared to the free ligand DpdtaA, although the fundamental apoptotic mechanisms remain consistent.
