DPX-rPA is a next-generation, adjuvant-free anthrax vaccine candidate that utilizes the DepoVax (DPX) delivery platform to formulate recombinant Bacillus anthracis protective antigen (rPA). Unlike current FDA-approved vaccines such as Biothrax, which require multiple doses and annual boosters, preclinical studies have shown that a single intramuscular injection of DPX-rPA induces robust anti-anthrax immune responses and provides 100% protection against lethal inhalational challenge in animal models including rabbits and non-human primates. The mechanism of action involves immunostimulation by presenting the recombinant protective antigen to the immune system in a way that elicits strong antibody production and toxin neutralization activity. The product was originally developed by PharmAthene and later advanced by Altimmune; more recently, BioVaxys Technology Corporation has reported on its preclinical efficacy and is considering further development for regulatory approval[1][2][5][6][8].
