Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DR-2041b is a specific 2-gram dosage strength of DR-2041, an investigational vaginal cream formulation containing Synthetic Conjugated Estrogens, A (SCE-A). Developed by Duramed Research (a subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals, subsequently acquired by Teva), the drug was designed for the treatment of vulvovaginal atrophy in postmenopausal women. SCE-A is a blend of synthetic estrogenic compounds that act as agonists at estrogen receptors in the vaginal tissues. By binding to these receptors, the drug promotes the restoration of the vaginal epithelium, increasing tissue thickness and secretions to alleviate symptoms such as vaginal dryness, irritation, and painful intercourse (dyspareunia). DR-2041b was evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to compare its efficacy and safety against a 1-gram dose (DR-2041a) and placebo.
