Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DragonCell is a cosmetic ingredient derived from biotechnologically cultivated Northern dragonhead (*Dracocephalum ruyschiana*) plant stem cells. Developed by the plant biotechnology company Alternative Plants, the extract is characterized by a high concentration of phenolic substances, specifically caffeic acid derivatives like rosmarinic and chlorogenic acids, which comprise over 60% of its active profile. DragonCell is designed for topical application in skincare to address anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-rosacea concerns. Its mechanism of action involves potent antioxidant activity, protection against UV-induced stress—increasing keratinocyte viability by 27%—and the reduction of Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), an enzyme responsible for collagen degradation. Additionally, it stimulates collagen production and regulates angiogenesis by inhibiting endothelial cell proliferation and capillary formation, making it suitable for treating cuperose and sensitive skin at recommended concentrations of 0.5-1%.
