DRL-17822 is an orally active, small molecule drug that acts as a selective inhibitor of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). CETP facilitates the transfer of cholesteryl esters from high-density lipoprotein (HDL) to low-density and very-low-density lipoproteins. By inhibiting CETP, DRL-17822 increases HDL-cholesterol levels and decreases low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. The drug has been developed primarily for the treatment of dyslipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipoproteinemia type II, and atherosclerosis. It has shown favorable pharmacokinetic properties in clinical studies with different oral formulations affecting its absorption profile in relation to food intake. Unlike some other CETP inhibitors such as torcetrapib, DRL-17822 has not demonstrated elevation of blood pressure in preclinical or early clinical studies[1][2][3][5][6][7].
