Overview

Dronabinol is a synthetic (man-made) form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of cannabis. It acts as an agonist at cannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system, primarily targeting the CB1 receptor. Dronabinol is used to treat nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in patients who have not responded adequately to conventional antiemetic treatments. It is also indicated for anorexia and weight loss in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The drug exerts its effects by modulating neurotransmitter release through activation of cannabinoid receptors, thereby influencing appetite stimulation and suppression of nausea and vomiting[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
