Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Drontal Plus Tasty** is a veterinary oral combination anthelmintic developed by Bayer and now marketed by Elanco for the treatment and control of canine intestinal helminth infections. It contains the small-molecule antiparasitic agents praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate, and febantel in a beef-flavored chewable tablet formulation designed for dogs and puppies. The combination provides broad-spectrum activity against tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms, including *Dipylidium caninum*, *Taenia pisiformis*, *Echinococcus granulosus*, and *Echinococcus multilocularis*. Mechanistically, praziquantel disrupts cestode tegumental integrity and calcium homeostasis, pyrantel acts as a depolarizing nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist causing nematode spastic paralysis, and febantel is a probenzimidazole converted to active metabolites that inhibit parasite microtubule formation by binding beta-tubulin. The product is FDA-approved, prescription-only, indicated for dogs and puppies 3 weeks of age or older weighing at least 2 pounds, and is contraindicated in pregnant dogs.
