dropropizine

Dropropizine is a non-opioid, peripheral antitussive agent used for the symptomatic relief of non-productive cough. Unlike central antitussives such as codeine, dropropizine acts primarily by inhibiting the cough reflex through its action on peripheral receptors in the respiratory tract and their afferent conductors. It is commonly administered as a racemic mixture or as its levo-enantiomer, levodropropizine, which is reported to have a better safety profile with reduced central nervous system side effects. Dropropizine has been investigated for its potential in treating dyspnea and has shown in silico potential for repurposing in lung adenocarcinoma and insulin resistance.
