Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Drospirenone + ethinyl estradiol + levomefolate calcium is an oral fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical containing the progestin drospirenone, the estrogen ethinyl estradiol, and levomefolate calcium, the bioactive folate form of vitamin B9. It is marketed as a combined oral contraceptive and folate-containing formulation used primarily to prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, while also increasing cervical mucus viscosity and altering the endometrium; the drospirenone component also contributes progestogenic, antiandrogenic, and antimineralocorticoid pharmacology. Depending on the specific branded product, it has been approved for pregnancy prevention and folate supplementation to reduce the risk of neural tube defects in pregnancies conceived during or shortly after use, and certain versions such as Beyaz are also approved for treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder and moderate acne vulgaris in appropriate females of reproductive potential.
