Overview

Drostanolone propionate is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) and a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Originally developed by Syntex in the late 1950s, it was primarily indicated for the treatment of advanced, inoperable breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The drug acts as an agonist of the androgen receptor, exerting both anabolic and androgenic effects. Due to its 2-methyl group, it is resistant to metabolism by 3alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and does not aromatize into estrogen, which historically made it a preferred option for breast cancer therapy to avoid estrogenic stimulation of tumors. While its clinical use has largely been discontinued in many countries in favor of newer hormonal therapies, it remains well-known in the athletic and bodybuilding communities for its muscle-hardening and performance-enhancing properties. Currently, it is often produced and sold as a chemical raw material by suppliers such as Hongyun Biotechnology.
