Overview
Nesta is an oral fixed-dose combination tablet containing drotaverine hydrochloride and mefenamic acid, developed and marketed by Thrift Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of pain associated with smooth muscle spasms and inflammation, including menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea), abdominal cramps, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and biliary or renal colic. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic agent that selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), leading to increased intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels and subsequent relaxation of smooth muscle. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby blocking prostaglandin synthesis to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
