Drotifair-M

Drotifair-M is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy consisting of drotaverine hydrochloride (80 mg) and mefenamic acid (250 mg). Developed and marketed by Marriott Pharmaceuticals, it is primarily indicated for the relief of dysmenorrhea and menstrual-related cramping. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic agent that works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), which leads to increased intracellular levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and subsequent relaxation of smooth muscles. Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins that mediate pain and uterine contractions.
