Overview
DRT-101 is a novel chimeric recombinant fusion protein drug candidate developed by Darnatein, a subsidiary of OSR Holdings. It is designed as a disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD), aiming to address the underlying causes of osteoarthritis rather than merely managing symptoms. The molecule is an engineered chimera that recombines bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7) and Activin proteins into a new structure, leveraging AI-enhanced protein design technology. Preclinical studies at the University of California, San Diego have demonstrated enhanced efficacy and safety compared to standard treatments. The mechanism involves replacement or agonism of activin and BMP2/BMP1 pathways, targeting cartilage degeneration and joint damage in osteoarthritis[1][2][3][4][7].
