Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dry-fried Chinese yam (known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Chao Shan Yao) is a processed (paozhi) form of the rhizome of Dioscorea opposita (or Dioscorea polystachya). The dry-frying process (typically stir-frying with bran or until yellowed) enhances its ability to tonify the Spleen and Stomach, harmonize the middle burner, and stop diarrhea, compared to the raw form which is more focused on nourishing Lung and Kidney Yin. It is widely used in traditional Chinese herbal formulas to treat Spleen deficiency, chronic diarrhea, loose stools, poor appetite, and fatigue.
