Overview

Drynaria rhizome extracellular vesicles (DR-EVs), also known as Rhizoma Drynariae-derived nanovesicles (RDNVs), are plant-derived nanovesicles isolated from the roots of the traditional Chinese medicine *Drynariae Rhizoma*. These vesicles, typically ranging from 30 to 1000 nm, contain a diverse cargo of proteins and small molecules, including naringin and NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase. DR-EVs exhibit intrinsic bone-targeting properties and have shown therapeutic potential in treating osteoporosis by promoting the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells through the activation of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) signaling and the oxidative phosphorylation pathway. Additionally, they are being investigated for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's diseases, as well as for localized treatment of rheumatoid arthritis when delivered via hydrogel systems.
