Overview

Dryopteris ramosa methanolic extract (MEDR) is a botanical research compound derived from the fronds of the Himalayan fern *Dryopteris ramosa*. As a complex natural product extract, it contains a diverse array of bioactive phytochemicals, including flavonoids, phloroglucinol derivatives, phenolic acids, alkaloids, and saponins. Preclinical investigations have demonstrated its potential therapeutic utility in gastrointestinal disorders, showing antiulcer activity against ethanol-induced gastric damage and laxative effects. Furthermore, the extract has exhibited antimicrobial properties against various bacterial pathogens and selective cytotoxic activity against human liver (HepG-2) and prostate (PC-3) cancer cell lines in vitro, while maintaining a favorable safety profile in non-cancerous cells. It is currently studied as an academic research compound, primarily in Pakistan, for its potential as a lead for drug development in oncology and gastroenterology.
