Overview

DS-5670a is a monovalent mRNA-based vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It encodes the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike glycoprotein derived from the original Wuhan strain of SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine utilizes a lipid nanoparticle delivery system to facilitate cellular uptake and expression of the antigen, leading to an immune response characterized by production of neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Developed by Daiichi Sankyo, DS-5670a has demonstrated favorable immunogenicity and safety profiles in clinical trials and has been authorized in Japan for use as a booster immunization against COVID-19[1][2][3][4]. The platform is adaptable for new variants, with bivalent and variant-adapted versions also under development.
