DS-7113b is a small molecule inhibitor of the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.7 (SCN9A), developed by Daiichi Sankyo for the treatment of chronic pain, specifically diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). Nav1.7 is a sodium channel isoform predominantly expressed in peripheral sensory neurons and plays a critical role in the generation and conduction of pain signals. By selectively blocking this channel, DS-7113b was designed to provide potent analgesic effects while minimizing the central nervous system and cardiovascular side effects often associated with non-selective sodium channel blockers. Despite progressing to Phase 2 clinical trials, Daiichi Sankyo announced the discontinuation of the DS-7113b development program in late 2022.
