DSB-31 is a synthetic C-ring modified prodigiosene derivative developed as a potential anti-leukemia agent. It is part of a series of prodigiosin analogs designed to retain the anti-cancer potency of naturally occurring prodigiosin while potentially reducing systemic toxicity. In preclinical studies using zebrafish xenograft models and various human leukemia cell lines (such as K562, CCRF-CEM, and MOLT-4), DSB-31 demonstrated moderate cytotoxic activity and inhibited the proliferation and migration of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cells. The compound was developed by researchers at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre.
