DSP-0187 is an investigational small molecule orexin 2 receptor (OX2R) agonist developed by Sumitomo Pharma for the treatment of narcolepsy. Orexins (also known as hypocretins) are essential neuropeptides that regulate wakefulness and the sleep-wake cycle; a deficiency in orexin signaling is the primary underlying cause of Narcolepsy Type 1. By selectively targeting and activating the OX2R, DSP-0187 aims to mimic the action of endogenous orexin, thereby promoting wakefulness and potentially reducing symptoms such as excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and cataplexy.
