DSP-3077 is an allogeneic induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived retinal sheet therapy developed by Sumitomo Pharma for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP). The therapeutic candidate consists of three-dimensional retinal tissue sheets generated from human iPSCs. These sheets are surgically transplanted into the subretinal space of the patient's eye. The mechanism of action involves the integration of the transplanted retinal tissue with the host retina to replace degenerated photoreceptor cells and restore or preserve visual function. This approach aims to address the underlying cellular loss in advanced retinitis pigmentosa, where traditional gene therapies may no longer be effective due to the absence of target cells. DSP-3077 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy.
