DSP30 is a synthetic CpG-oligodeoxynucleotide (CpG-ODN) that serves as a potent B-cell mitogen and immunostimulant. It is primarily utilized in clinical diagnostics and hematopathology to stimulate the proliferation of mature B-cell neoplasms, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), which typically exhibit low spontaneous mitotic activity in vitro. By acting as an agonist for Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), DSP30 triggers signaling pathways that induce cell cycle entry and mitosis in malignant B-cells. This allows for the generation of metaphases required for conventional cytogenetic analysis (karyotyping) and the detection of complex chromosomal abnormalities that are critical for prognostic stratification. DSP30 is frequently used in combination with Interleukin-2 (IL-2) to enhance its stimulatory effect. Beyond its diagnostic use, research has explored its potential to modulate the immunosuppressive properties of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) for therapeutic applications in conditions like graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
