DSR 2.0 is a proprietary, second-generation solution developed by Sequana Medical for use in its Direct Sodium Removal (DSR) therapy program, specifically designed to treat diuretic-resistant heart failure and cardiorenal syndrome[1][5][4]. Unlike traditional peritoneal dialysis solutions that primarily remove toxins from the blood, DSR 2.0 is optimized to efficiently remove sodium and water from the body via peritoneal administration[1][5]. Preclinical and early clinical studies have demonstrated that DSR 2.0 achieves approximately four times greater sodium removal compared to standard commercially available solutions[1][5]. The mechanism of action involves breaking the cycle of cardiorenal syndrome by directly removing excess sodium and fluid, thereby improving diuretic response and reducing or eliminating the need for loop diuretics for months post-treatment[1][4]. Clinical trials (including MOJAVE Phase 1/2a) have shown significant improvements in urinary sodium excretion, reduced loop diuretic requirements (up to or exceeding a 95% reduction), improved NYHA functional class, no serious adverse events related to treatment, and no clinically relevant changes in serum sodium levels[4][9].
