Overview

DTaP-sIPV is a combination vaccine developed primarily by Takeda Pharmaceuticals to provide protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and poliomyelitis. It is distinguished by its use of inactivated poliovirus derived from attenuated Sabin strains (sIPV) rather than the traditional wild-type Salk strains. This substitution allows for manufacturing in lower-biosafety-level (BSL-2) facilities, which reduces production costs and biosafety risks compared to the BSL-3 requirements for wild-type poliovirus vaccines. The vaccine contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (including pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), and inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. It has been approved and marketed in Japan under the brand name Quattrovac and has undergone clinical investigation in other regions, including China.
