Overview
This drug is a next-generation hexavalent combination vaccine developed by GSK, currently in Phase II clinical development. It is designed to provide active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib) in infants. The formulation, identified in clinical trials as DssiTgdPa-HBV-IPV/Hib, is being evaluated for its immunogenicity and safety profile in comparison to the established hexavalent vaccine, Infanrix Hexa. Key features of this new formulation include the use of specific antigen preparations (such as Dssi and Tgd toxoids) and a move toward a fully liquid presentation, which simplifies administration by eliminating the need for reconstitution of the Hib component. The vaccine works by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against bacterial toxins and viral/bacterial surface antigens, providing comprehensive protection against six major childhood diseases.
