DTaP-Hib-IPV is a pentavalent combination vaccine designed to provide active immunization against five major pediatric infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine typically consists of purified diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (including pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, and the Hib capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate) conjugated to a carrier protein. In the context of Novartis Vaccines' clinical development program for its meningococcal conjugate portfolio (specifically the MenACWY-CRM vaccine, Menveo), DTaP-Hib-IPV was utilized as a concomitant vaccine in Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the meningococcal vaccine when integrated into standard childhood immunization schedules.
