Overview

The DTaP-Hib combination vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine developed by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products to provide active immunity against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). This specific formulation is an adsorbed, acellular vaccine, meaning it utilizes purified components of the pertussis bacterium (such as pertussis toxoid and filamentous hemagglutinin) rather than whole cells, which is associated with improved safety and tolerability. The Hib component typically consists of the polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP) capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein, such as tetanus toxoid, to enhance its immunogenicity in young children. By combining these four antigens into a single injection, the vaccine simplifies pediatric immunization schedules, reduces the number of clinical visits, and improves overall vaccination compliance in infants and toddlers.
