Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DTaP-IPV-HB-PRP~T + pneumococcal polysaccharide refers to the concomitant administration of a hexavalent vaccine and a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV). The hexavalent component, such as Sanofi's Hexaxim (also known as Hexyon or Hexacima) or GSK's Infanrix Hexa, provides active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The pneumococcal component, typically Prevnar (Prevenar), provides protection against various serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae. This combination is a standard part of pediatric vaccination schedules, often administered at 2, 4, and 6 months of age. The vaccines are biologics consisting of purified antigens, toxoids, and polysaccharides (often conjugated to carrier proteins like tetanus toxoid or CRM197) to enhance immunogenicity in infants.
