The DTaP-IPV-Hep B-PRP-T vaccine is a hexavalent combination vaccine designed to protect against six serious infectious diseases in infants and young children: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis (polio), hepatitis B, and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. The formulation contains antigens for each of these pathogens—diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis components (pertussis toxin [PT], filamentous hemagglutinin [FHA], pertactin [PRN], fimbriae types 2 & 3), inactivated poliovirus types 1/2/3, recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen protein (HBsAg), and PRP from Hib conjugated to tetanus toxoid. The mechanism of action is induction of protective immunity via the generation of pathogen-specific antibodies following intramuscular administration. This combination reduces the number of injections required for primary immunization schedules in infants[1][3][4][8]. Major developers include Sanofi Pasteur/Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) joint venture for Vaxelis; GSK for Infanrix hexa; Sanofi Pasteur for Hexyon/Hexacima/Hexaxim[6][8].
