Overview

DTaPgen is a recombinant acellular pertussis-containing combination vaccine developed by BioNet-Asia for the primary immunization of infants and children. It consists of diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis components, specifically featuring a genetically detoxified pertussis toxin (PTgen) and filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA). Unlike conventional acellular pertussis vaccines that rely on chemical inactivation (e.g., using glutaraldehyde or formaldehyde), which can alter the protein structure and reduce immunogenicity, the PTgen in DTaPgen is produced through recombinant DNA technology to be non-toxic while preserving its natural conformational epitopes. This approach aims to induce a more robust and long-lasting immune response against *Bordetella pertussis*. The vaccine is designed to protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against the respective bacterial toxins and adhesion factors.
