Overview
The DTwP-HepB-Hib vaccine is a fully liquid pentavalent combination vaccine designed for active immunization against five major childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. It is formulated using purified diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, inactivated whole-cell Bordetella pertussis organisms, recombinant Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and Hib capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a protein carrier (typically tetanus toxoid). By combining these five antigens into a single injection, the vaccine simplifies immunization schedules, reduces the number of required clinic visits, and improves overall vaccination coverage in pediatric populations. It is a cornerstone of routine childhood immunization programs, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and is produced by several major manufacturers including the Serum Institute of India, Panacea Biotec, and Biological E. Limited.
