Overview

DTX-HSA-biotin is a targeted nanoparticle conjugate consisting of the chemotherapeutic agent docetaxel (DTX) covalently bound to human serum albumin (HSA) and functionalized with biotin as a targeting ligand. Developed by researchers at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, this conjugate is designed to improve the water solubility of docetaxel and enhance its tumor-specific delivery. The biotin moiety targets the sodium-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT), which is overexpressed on various cancer cells, facilitating receptor-mediated endocytosis and intracellular drug release. In preclinical models of breast cancer, DTX-HSA-biotin demonstrated superior cytotoxicity and tumor reduction compared to free docetaxel.
