DuACT is a fixed-dose combination medication designed to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It comprises two active pharmaceutical ingredients: Acrivastine, an H1-antihistamine, and Pseudoephedrine, a sympathomimetic decongestant. Acrivastine functions by blocking histamine H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic reactions such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose. Pseudoephedrine exerts its effect by stimulating alpha and beta adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction in the nasal passages, which in turn reduces swelling and mucus production, providing relief from nasal congestion. This medication is typically administered orally.
