Overview

Dual CAR T cells (specifically the Amsterdam UMC candidate) is an investigational, autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Developed in-house at Amsterdam UMC, the therapy utilizes a dual-targeting approach to simultaneously recognize B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) and G protein-coupled receptor class C group 5 member D (GPRC5D) on the surface of malignant plasma cells. This strategy is intended to mitigate the risk of relapse caused by antigen escape, which frequently occurs with single-target BCMA-directed therapies. The T cells are genetically modified on-site to express both CARs before being reinfused into the patient. The program is led by researchers including Tuna Mutis and colleagues at Amsterdam UMC.
