Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb derived from the dried root of *Angelica pubescens* (specifically *Angelica pubescens* f. *biserrata*). It has been used for thousands of years in East Asian medicine to dispel wind-dampness, disperse cold, and alleviate pain, particularly in the lower back, knees, and legs. The primary active constituents of duhuo are coumarins, including osthole, columbianadin, columbianetin, and ostenol. Modern pharmacological research has demonstrated that duhuo and its active compounds possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-arthritic, and neuroprotective properties. It is commonly used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and various forms of joint and muscle pain, often as a key component of classical herbal formulas such as Duhuo Jisheng Decoction.
