DUOC-01 is a cell therapy product derived from human umbilical cord blood, specifically from CD14+ monocytes, which differentiate into macrophage/microglia-like cells. It is designed to treat demyelinating and neurodegenerative conditions of the central nervous system. DUOC-01 accelerates remyelination by reducing gliosis, promoting oligodendrocyte proliferation, and enhancing myelin debris clearance. The cells secrete lysosomal enzymes (relevant for inherited metabolic diseases), as well as cytokines such as IL-6 and IL-10, potentially modulating neuroinflammation. DUOC-01 is administered intrathecally—often as an adjunctive therapy following allogeneic cord blood transplantation—to provide functional enzyme activity in the early post-transplant period or to promote repair in other demyelinating disorders.
