Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DuoDerm is a line of hydrocolloid dressings developed by ConvaTec, primarily used for wound management and dermatological conditions such as atopic eczema. The dressing consists of a hydrocolloid matrix—typically containing sodium carboxymethylcellulose, pectin, and gelatin—bonded to a polyurethane foam or film outer layer. When applied to a wound or affected skin, the hydrocolloid particles interact with moisture to form a gel, creating a moist healing environment that facilitates autolytic debridement and skin barrier repair. In dermatology, DuoDerm acts as an occlusive barrier that protects the skin from mechanical trauma (such as scratching) and external irritants, while also enhancing the penetration and efficacy of co-administered topical corticosteroids.
