Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duolisheng (dexamethasone palmitate) is a lipid emulsion formulation of the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone palmitate, a prodrug of dexamethasone. Developed by Guangzhou Green Cross Pharmaceutical, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with knee osteoarthritis via intra-articular injection. The formulation, often referred to as a "liposteroid," utilizes lipid microspheres to encapsulate the active ingredient, which facilitates targeted delivery to inflamed synovial tissues and provides a sustained-release profile. Upon administration, the prodrug is hydrolyzed into active dexamethasone, which binds to the glucocorticoid receptor to exert potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. This delivery system is designed to enhance local therapeutic efficacy while potentially reducing systemic side effects compared to conventional corticosteroid injections.
