Duonika

Duonika is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) developed and marketed by Valenta Pharmaceuticals. It is a small molecule combination therapy consisting of drospirenone, a fourth-generation progestogen, and ethinylestradiol, a synthetic estrogen. Drospirenone is unique among progestogens for its pharmacological profile, which closely mimics natural progesterone, possessing anti-mineralocorticoid and anti-androgenic activities. These properties help to counteract estrogen-related sodium retention and treat androgen-dependent conditions like acne. Duonika is primarily indicated for the prevention of pregnancy, but it is also utilized for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris and the management of symptoms associated with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women who opt for oral contraception.
