Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duromist is a proprietary **oral spray formulation of sildenafil citrate** developed by NovaDel Pharma for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, leveraging transmucosal absorption to potentially provide faster onset and greater bioavailability compared with conventional sildenafil tablets such as Viagra. Duromist delivers sildenafil via a metered oral spray, with pilot pharmacokinetic studies in healthy male volunteers showing that 20 mg (two sprays) is bioequivalent in systemic exposure to a 25 mg Viagra tablet and that higher exposure at comparable doses is consistent with partial buccal absorption and reduced first‑pass metabolism.[1][5][14] As with other sildenafil products, its pharmacology is based on selective inhibition of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), enhancing nitric-oxide–mediated increases in cyclic GMP in corpus cavernosum smooth muscle to improve erectile function in men with erectile dysfunction.[1][5][14]
