Overview

Duroquinone is a synthetic organic compound belonging to the class of 1,4-benzoquinones in which all four hydrogens are substituted by methyl groups. It is a yellow powder and acts as an organic oxidant and antioxidant[2][3][7]. Duroquinone can undergo redox cycling in biological systems—being reduced by cellular reductases such as NAD(P)H quinone reductase (NQO1)—and can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress and potential damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA[8]. It has been studied for its role in redox regulation and detoxification processes within cells[1]. Duroquinone may also be formed as a degradation product from vitamin E acetate during vaping or pyrolysis[8][3].
