Overview

Dushen Tang (DST) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula composed of a single herb, *Panax ginseng*. It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of "qi collapse," a state of extreme exhaustion or shock resulting from severe blood loss, heart failure, or chronic illness. The formula is rich in ginsenosides, such as Rb1, Rg1, and Rd, which are considered its primary bioactive constituents. Modern pharmacological research indicates that Dushen Tang may attenuate memory impairment and neuronal damage by modulating the gut microbiota and regulating energy metabolism, specifically through the activation of cAMP signaling and alterations in pyruvate and ketone body metabolic pathways. It is also frequently used as a foundational component in more complex formulas like Shenfu Tang.
