Overview

The dust mite nanovaccine is a nanoparticle-based vaccine designed for allergen-specific immunotherapy against dust mite allergies and allergic asthma. It functions by encapsulating or carrying dust mite allergens along with an adjuvant, typically CpG oligodeoxynucleotides. Upon administration, the nanoparticles deliver these components to immune cells, where CpG acts as an agonist for Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9). This activation shifts the immune response from a Th2-dominant allergic profile to a Th1-dominant response, characterized by increased production of Th1 cytokines like IFN-γ and IL-10, and a reduction in Th2 cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13, as well as IgE antibodies. This modulation aims to induce immune tolerance to dust mite allergens and alleviate allergic inflammation.
