Overview
Dutogliptin is a potent, selective, and orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), a serine protease involved in the degradation of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP‑1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP). By inhibiting DPP4, dutogliptin increases the levels of these hormones, thereby enhancing insulin secretion and improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dutogliptin has also been investigated for potential use after myocardial infarction due to its effects on cardiac myocyte regeneration. The drug was originally developed by Phenomix Corporation and is currently being further developed by Recardio[1][3][7].
