DV202B1-RNA is an experimental mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine consists of a modified messenger RNA (mRNA) sequence encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (LNP). Upon intramuscular administration, the mRNA is translated by host cells to produce HIV-1 envelope (Env) gp150 transmembrane trimers. These trimers are specifically designed as immunogens to elicit the production of V2 apex-directed broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs), which are capable of neutralizing a diverse range of HIV-1 strains. DV202B1-RNA is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 first-in-human clinical trial to assess its safety and immunogenicity in healthy, HIV-negative adult volunteers.
