Overview

DW-4902 is an orally active, small molecule gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist developed by Daewon Pharm in collaboration with Asan Medical Center. It is currently in clinical development for the treatment of uterine fibroids (leiomyomas). The drug works by competitively binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, thereby inhibiting the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This suppression leads to a reduction in the production of ovarian steroids, such as estrogen and progesterone, which are the primary drivers of uterine fibroid growth and associated symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain. DW-4902 aims to provide a non-surgical, oral therapeutic option for managing hormone-dependent gynecological conditions.
