DW-5524 is a small molecule pediatric oral liquid formulation of **ibuprofen** currently in clinical development by **Daewon Pharm**. Developed as an incrementally modified drug (IMD), DW-5524 is specifically designed for the treatment of fever (antipyretic) in the pediatric population. As a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), its mechanism of action involves the non-selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes. This inhibition prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of inflammation and the elevation of body temperature in the hypothalamus. The program is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea, aiming to provide an optimized dosing option for children compared to standard antipyretic syrups.
