Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DWJ108 is a long-acting injectable formulation of leuprorelin (also known as leuprolide), a synthetic nonapeptide analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). Developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical, this sustained-release depot is designed for the treatment of hormone-responsive conditions, specifically prostate cancer and central precocious puberty. The formulation is engineered to provide extended therapeutic efficacy over a 3-month or 4-month period, offering a more convenient dosing schedule compared to standard monthly injections. As a GnRH receptor agonist, leuprorelin initially stimulates the pituitary gland but subsequently causes receptor downregulation and desensitization. This leads to a profound suppression of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion, resulting in the reduction of testosterone or estrogen to castrate or prepubertal levels, respectively.
